A body lift procedure is  also known as a belt lipectomy, which  is a plastic surgery procedure to raise and reshape unsightly, undefined body contours from both the front side and back side.

This plastic surgery procedure is performed commonly after massive weight loss, but may also prove to be appropriate in other patients with excess skin and sagging appearance in these major body contour areas. This plastic surgery procedure is formulated to remove loose sagging skin and related fat body deposits,in turn providing a much more visually pleasing body contour and shape.  A body lift procedure can also be used in the lower torso and upper legs including the abdomen area, waist area, inner and outer thighs, buttocks, and/or hips. General Body Lift Procedure

The precise procedure varies with each patient, depending on the body type and desired surgical outcome. Generally speaking, the body lift procedure entails making an incision that goes all the way around the waist (lower abdomen in the front all the way to the lower back area) Excess skin is then removed, followed by the underlying fat deposits. Finally, the skin is pulled taught and sutured into the new configuration. The entire procedure can last from 3 to 7 hours. The surgery is performed under general anesthesia.

Body Lift Surgery Recovery -

Typically, post-op instructions require limited movement, sometimes walking is recommended early to prevent blood clots from forming in the  in the legs. Bandages are applied right after surgery to minimize swelling and provide support.

Drains are usually placed to drain excess fluids, and instructions are given for drain care. The scars resulting from the incisions are permanent but are carefully placed so as to minimize visibility. Patients of body lift surgery sometimes report minor pain associated with body lift surgery which can be treated with oral medication.

Recovery time varies with the extent of the body lift  procedure. Depending on the extent of surgery, postoperative overnight care in a hospital or aftercare facility may be recommended. Patients can minimize potential problems by carefully following the directions that are given after the surgery.
