Breast reduction surgery or reduction mammaplasty surgery is an enhancement procedure that reshapes the breasts in order to make them smaller, lighter, and firmer. General Breast Reduction  Procedure -

Surgical techniques for breast reduction surgery  vary; however, the most common procedure involves an incision that is shaped similar to an anchor, with one incision that encircles the areola (darker skin around the nipple), a vertical incision from the areola down to the fold along the bottom of the breast, and a horizontal incision along the fold. The plastic surgeon then removes excess glandular breast  tissue, breast  fat, and breast skin. Next, the nipple and areola are repositioned to a higher position and held in place by stitches. Liposuction alone can be used to reduce breast size, or used to target the area just to the side of each breasts to provide an improved contour. The best procedure can be determined during the initial consultation visit.

Breast Reduction Recovery Process

Generally, post-op breast reduction  instructions call for rest and limited movement in order to speed up the healing process and reduce the recovery time. Bandages are applied immediately following surgery, and instructions for removal and showering are provided. Drains may or may not be used, and this question can be addressed during the plastic surgery consultation. Once the bandages are removed, a specialized surgical bra will need to be worn for several weeks. Patients sometimes report minor pain associated with surgery. Any pain can be treated with oral medication. Patients can minimize potential problems by carefully following the instructions given after the breast reduction surgery.
